(24) *** Beatrix Potter's association with the Lake District is famous, with many of her Tales using elements and settings from her holidays there. After her marriage to the solicitor William Heelis she became a full-time farmer and landowner, particularly renowned for revitalising the farming of the local Herdwick sheep. After her death in 1943 she bequethed over 4,000 acres of land to the National Trust, which itself largely came into being via the determination of family friend H.D. Rawnsley (see lot XXX).
