Beschreibung:

FLOWN ON APOLLO 12 – Data file clip. Used aboard the Lunar Module Intrepid and containing a Velcro patch that retained lunar-exposed material. Charles Conrad and Alan Bean spent nearly 8 hours on the lunar surface during two extensive surface explorations, resulting in a coating of lunar dust on their space suits, especially their boots, lower legs, wrists, and gloves. Inside the Lunar Module, the astronauts had to handle their equipment, putting it in direct contact with their space suits. This data file clip and the large Velcro patch especially would have easily retained the fine dust and minor fraying of space suit material. A one page analysis of the embedded material can be found on Conrad's personal stationery mentioning the suit material fragments embedded in the Velcro and its overall slight gray tint. With : Charles CONRAD's autograph manuscript provenance card reading: " This ‘Data File Clip,' part number SEB 32100094-302, S/N 1097, was flown to the lunar surface aboard the Lunar Module Intrepid during the flight of Apollo XII. It was used to secure checklists and logged over 31 hours on the moon’s surface during November 19-20, 1969. The clamp is listed on page 41 of the Apollo XII stowage list. It has been in my personal collection since I returned from the moon ." Aluminum spring-hinged clip, 1 by 2 by 2.25 inches with an inch square Velcro patch.
