♡ FLORENCE HIGGS (1918 – 2006) Golden Cockerel 1956 linocut ed. 9/18 titled, editioned, and signed below image 28 x 20.5cm OTHER NOTES: Florence Higgs is an example of a female artist who has sadly disappeared from much of the dialogue surrounding Australian art history, and there is very little information available about her. She trained as an art teacher at the Royal Melbourne Technical College. It is known that she later moved to England where she studied lithography at the Central School of Art and Design in London. Her works remain an important part of 1950's printmaking in Australia and many of her works are held by the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra. Estimate $1,000-1,500 Condition: Unframed. Sheet size: 23 x 26.5cm. There are some imperfections to the sheet, made at time of creation. The sheet has been cut down and the printers test mark is partially visible upper centre. There are four marks of staining to each corner from previous framing. Upper left corner of the sheet has been previously folded, leaving a light crease (does not affect the image).
