first edition, the set of 8 hand-coloured etchings, each with three horizontal strips of multiple images, c.360 x 490mm., all trimmed (most to just outside platemark but plate 2 to edge of image at foot and lacking caption, plate 4 to edge of image), some light soiling and occasional spotting (especially plate 4), some creases and a few small tears and repairs at edges, a little wrinkled by damp, mostly to upper edge, plate 3 with slight staining and surface damage, otherwise unstained, all mounted on stubs, modern half roan, warped, [Abbey, Life 462; BM Satires 9635-42], oblong folio, Fores, 1800-01. *** Scarce set of engravings presumably intended to be cut up to form a border, featuring grotesque figures with large heads. Subjects include the long-winded parson, the incompetent barber, the boastful soldier etc.
