Nunc primum edita) pp. Title printed in red and black with Blaues device in woodcut. Contemporary vellum, somewhat worn. A few minor marginal tears. Title foxed, some minor foxing to text, a few leaves browned. A few marginal pencil annotations. First edition. Hugo Grotius (1583-1645), important political and philosophical theorist, best known today for his contibutions to the natural law theories of normativity. First complete edition of Grotius's correspondence comprising 2510 letters written between the years 1599-1645 to famous international correspondents as the Swedish statesman Axel Oxenstierna, the Dutch theologian Gerardus Joannes Vossius and the German politician Ludwig Camerarius, not to mention the Swedish Queen Christina.
