2pp, 4.25" x 7", New York, Aug. 20 [1893]. Addressed to "Mr. Field," probably Eugene, as he lived in Chicago at the time and wrote for the Daily News. When I saw you at the press meeting in Chicago in May you said you wanted my book with my autograph and had I not been so busy and had I been quite sure of your address I would have sent it with so much pleasure; but now I am in doubt which one to send. Shall it be "Boots & Saddles," "Following the Guidon" or "Tenting on the Plains"? The last we were speaking of that evening. I remember as it has been republished and the newspapers were making me happy again by the reviews. With good wishes, I am most sincerely yours, Elizabeth B. Custer. Inked note on first page that the letter was answered, Dec. 1, 1893. Condition: Minor soil on edges.
