Doug Wildey and Ross Andru art. Story comics are known for shamelessly imitating EC, and maintaining a certain level of quality as a result. This issue's "Foul Ball" is a toned-down version off EC's "Foul Play" (Haunt of Fear #19, May-June, 1953. See lot 32). EC's version shocked readers with its gory depiction of a baseball game played with human body parts, earning a prominent place in Seduction of the Innocent, whereas Story played it safe with a sanitized ending: "Your face was an agony of pain. First, your nose broke, then your teeth, then an eye... and finally there was blessed silence... you were DEAD!" Only in the pre-Code era does the sanitized version of a story end in mutilation and death! The comic book concludes with a full-page ad promising salvation to the queasy reader: "With God All Things Are Possible!" CGC census: Two copies in this grade.
