FERNAND LÉGER Tête de Femme . Drypoint, circa 1928-35 or 1952 (printed later). 195x120 mm; 7 3/4x4 3/4 inches, full margins. Numbered 24/100 in pencil, lower left, and with the artist's signature ink stamp, lower right. Printed by Lacourière and Frélaut, Paris. Published by the Blue Moon Press, New York. From the deluxe edition of Lawrence Saphire, Fernand Léger , New York, 1978. A very good impression of this scarce print. According to Saphire, "This drypoint may have been intended for Christian Zervos' monograph on Léger, published by Cahier d'Arts in 1952, which calls for and etching to accompany the 60 head copies. In fact, these books were issued without a print. The plate, which is property of the Christian Zervos estate, could have been done earlier than 1952, perhaps as an essai for projects between 1928 and 1935." Saphire 126.
