The first of a series of five papers on nuclear physics by Fermi and associates, investigating the theory proposed in 1923 by of the hyperfine structure of spectral lines and the nuclear magnetic momenta. They demonstrated that the nuclear magnetic moment was only 1/1000 of the magnitude of the Bohr magneton, and not the same magnitude, as had previously been believed.
