Legatura in mezza tela grigia, carta bordeaux ai piatti, titoli al dorso, sovraccoperta illustrata a colori con risvolti e catalogo editoriale al piatto posteriore, contropiatti e sguardie in carta decorata a motivi geometrici. Piccoli strappi e lacune minime alla camicia editoriale. Edizione originale di questo romanzo che determinò il successo dello scrittore americano, premio Nobel per la letteratura nel 1946. Anticipando il cosiddetto stile pulp, Faulkner affrontò, con un tono poi definito gotico, i temi della corruzione e del male, ricevendo il plauso della critica per il rispetto del difficile equilibrio tra le esigenze della trama quello dello stile, ma al contempo producendo un grande scandalo ad Oxford, dove viveva, per la disinvoltura con la quale descrisse gli ambienti malfamati, popolati da contrabbandieri e maîtresses. L'esemplare è completo della rara sovraccoperta originale che presenta tutte le caratteristiche della prima tiratura, cioè i talloncini con indicazione di prezzo $ 2.50 sulle bandelle e la tricromia crema, verde petrolio e nero. 8° (180X125 mm). Gray half-cloth, bordeaux paper on the covers, titles o the spine, coloured illustrated dust jacket and editorial catalogue on the past cover, decorated pastedowns and flyleaves with geometric motifs. Small tears and losses on the editorial chemise. Original edition of this novel which determinated the the success of the American writer, Nobel Prize for Literature in 1946. In anticipation of the so-called style pulp, Faulkner faced a tone then defined as gothic, the issues of corruption and evil, receiving critical acclaim for the respect of the difficult balance between the plot of the requirements of the style, but at the same time producing a big scandal at Oxford, where he lived, for the ease with which he described the infamous environments, populated by smugglers and maitresses. The copy is complete of the rare original dust jacket which presents all the features of the first printing, slips indicating price $ 2.50 on the straps and the tri-color cream, teal and black.
