Beschreibung:

[6], 198 pp. In Chinese, with English title on rear wrapper, spurious copyright information in English on prelim. leaf. 23.3x16.8 cm (9¼x6½"), color pictorial wrappers. Fake Harry Potter book written and published in China as the fifth in the popular series, meeting with some initial success though soon suppressed following action by the People's Literature Publishing House, which had the publishing rights in China to Rowling's Potter books. Drenched by a mysterious rain, Harry Potter is transformed into a fat, hairy dwarf and stripped of his magic powers as he battles the forces of evil in the shape of a dragon. OCLC/WorldCat locates only four copies, at Colorado College, Indiana University, Princeton, and Koninklijke Bibliotheek in the Netherlands. The following information on "Harry Potter and Leopard Walk up to Dragon" is derived from the article, "Fake Harry Potter novel hits China" (4 July 2002), BBC News website, via OCLC. An unauthorized book, written by an anonymous Chinese author; J.K. Rowling's name appears on the front cover and title page. It was seen as an attempt to profit from the worldwide popularity of the Harry Potter series of books by J.K. Rowling. Many errors and inconsistencies are evident between the story and the official series written by Rowling. On the verso of the title page: "Harry Potter and Laopard Walk up to Draton. Text copyngh tc 2002 by J.K. Rowing. Illustrations copynghtc 2002 by Mary GrmdPre. Jaeket artc 2002 by Mery grmdPre ..." Includes illustrations copied from a variety of sources, but none of Mary GrandPré's illustrations appear to have been reproduced.
