Eustachi, Bartolomeo (c. 1500-1574) Erotiani Graeci scriptoris vetustissimi vocum, apud Hippocratem sunt, collectio. Venice: apud Lucam Antonium Juntam, 1566. First edition, quarto, 1 [8], 2 [6], *6, A-P8, Q4, R-T8, V4; ex libris Trinity College, Cambridge, with engraved bookplate on verso of title, small sold stamp below it; the same stamp repeated on verso of last leaf; bound in 17th century half leather with marbled paper boards, rebacked, some minor waterstaining to contents, 8 x 6 in. Adams E-927; L. Choulant, History and Bibliography of Anatomic Illustration (M. Mortimer trans.), pp. 200-4. This first edition of Eustachi's commentary on Erotianus's (c. 50-70 CE) Vocum, an ancient collection of words found in Hippocrates. A contemporary of Andreas Vesalius (1514-1564), Thomas describes Eustachi as 'perhaps the greatest anatomist of his time, and probably no other anatomist, ancient or modern, has made so many discoveries' (Thomas, p. 877)
