Woodcut printer's device on title-page; 61 woodcut portraits, the first 35 of them illuminated in gilt and colors, in an early hand; 2 illuminated initials; woodcut tailpiece decorations. (8vo) 14.2x8.5 cm. (5½x3¼"), later half calf & wooden boards. Chronicle of French kings, being an epitome, with additions, of De regibus Francorum chronicon by Jean Du Tillet, Bishop of Meaux, first published in 1539, and republished several times with additions. This copy notable for the hand-illuminated portraits. Brunet II, column 1029. OCLC/Worldcat lists only six copies. Note: originally listed as having 59 portraits, this copy is complete with 61 portraits Lot Amendments Condition: Some light staining to about ten leaves towards the rear (none with the colored portraits), very good or better.
