English School (18th and 19th Century) A pine dummy board painted as a girl in 17th century costume, after Mytens, depicted wearing a green and gold dress with lace collar and apron, holding cherries in her right hand, with hinged support to the reverse, 16cm high h:117 cm Literature: A and C Scott, Old Dummy Board Figures, The Antique Collectors' Club, February 1961, p.22, fig. 9. C Graham, Dummy Boards and Chimney Boards, Aylesbury, 1988, illus.p.26. Sir Albert Richardson, The Professor, by Simon Houfe, White Crescent Press Ltd., 1980, p.70: "In the collection he had a most remarkable series of painted wooden dummy boards, cut out figures with which the seventeenth and eighteenth century gentlemen of quality had "peopled" their rooms ... most of them were about six feet tall, very realistic and included ... a man with a monkey". Dirty overall, usual chipping to edge, areas of over painting in the bodice and at the hem of the skirt; other areas of over painting - very dirty needs cleaning. One small hole/bump in her hair. An area of touching up/old damage by the rim of her dress. The wooden back support is a little wobbly. She is English, after Mytens.
