Beschreibung:

.38 caliber, 7 3/8" barrel, S/N 387064. The top of the barrel is marked with the Colt name and address and 1884, 1905 and 1926 patent dates. The left of the barrel is marked Officers Model 38. With a raised blade front sight and target rear sight on the top of the frame. The top flat of the frame is engraved in cursive Plinky, with an upper case T engraved to the left of the rampant colt logo on the left of the frame. These embellishments were typical of Topperwein guns, and were engraved by Ad Topperwein himself. The star marking on the right of the frame above the triggerguard indicates that this pistol was sent back to Colt for re-barreling. With stag handle grips. The revolver includes Plinky's original Abercrombie & Fitch leather holster, adorned with brass tacks and a silver concho. The buckle has a brass snap marked A&F. Plinky Topperwein was an expert shot with a .38 Colt revolver, and once made a score of 497 out of 500 at 25 yards. There are several stories of Plinky shooting rats in hotels with some of her pistols, and though the caliber or location may vary, Ernie Lind, a close friend of the Topperweins and recipient of many of their guns, claimed that this very pistol was used in such an incident. Accompanied with the revolver is a signed and notarized letter from the late Mrs. Ernie Lind that states: 3/22/92 To whom it may concern: The Colt described below belonged to the late Ad and Plinky Topperwein, Winchester-Western's great exhibition shooters from 1901 to 1945. This is the Colt that Plinky shot the rat with in the hotel in Wisconsin in the early 30's. ...In 1944 after Plinky (Topp's partner and beloved wife) died, Topp was given the job by Winchester-Western to find a husband and wife team to replace the Topperwein's. Ad picked Ernie and Dot Lind - "The Shooting Linds" - to succeed the husband and wife act he and Plinky had made famous. After Top instructed the Linds on the Topperwein technique, they represented Winchester with shooting exhibitions throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. Ernie and Dot's spectacular rifle, shotgun and pistol shooting packed in crowds at sportsmans shows, fairs, rodeos, police ranges and military bases for more than three decades. Ad and the Linds became great friends and in 1945 Ad gave the Colt Officer's Model 38 described below to Dot. Ad also made the comment "Next to my Plinky, you are the greatest women (sp) shooter of all time". Dot then answered "thats because I took a post graduate course from you, Top". Model:Officers 38 Caliber: 38 s/n: 387064 I confirm the above information to be true. Mrs. Ernie Lind (printed and signed in ink). Condition: The revolver shows light fading on the frame, with a mostly strong blue finish throughout. The bore and action are very good. The holster shows only minimal wear.
