ELIZABETH I, Queen of England . Document signed ("Elizabeth I," with flourish), Greenwich, 27 June [1559]. 1 page, oblong 4to, 225 x 255mm. (9 x 10 in.), ON PARCHMENT, lightly foxed, with original paper and wax seal . Good condition. IN THE FIRST YEAR OF HER REIGN, THE YOUNG QUEEN ELIZABETH SETTLES AN ACCOUNT DATING FROM HER PREDECESSOR, "BLOODY MARY" The twenty-six year old Queen Elizabeth orders that a widow be paid her husband's salary for services rendered before his death, and before her own accession to the throne: "We woll and commande you that of the Treasour of our Chambre being in your custody ye uppon the receipt hereof do contente and paye or cause to be contented and payed unto our loving subjecte Isabell Wright widowe late the wife of Richard Wright deceased the somme of eight pounds sixtene shillings and eight pen[ce] as money to her due in the right of her said husband for the scouring of a ponde at our Manor of Grenewiche [Greenwich] in the tyme of the late Quene our Sister [Mary I] and by her commandement and these our letters shal be your sufficient warrant and discharge in this behalf..." Documents signed by Elizabeth prior to the 1560's are quite rare on the market.
