ELIZABETH I, Queen of England (1558-1603)]. Privy Council document, a warrant signed by seven members of the Council, addressed to Lord Buckhurst as Lord Treasurer, Greenwich, 26 May 1601, annotated and initialled by Buckhurst at the foot, 22 lines written in brown ink, one page, folio , integral address leaf (slightly browned and smudged on second leaf), tipped on guard into an album also including engraved and printed portraits and typewritten notes, morocco-backed cloth. The warrant refers to the levy in the previous month of twenty soldiers in the county of Monmouth 'which are to be sent for Her Majesty's service to Loughfoile in the north of Ireland', and an application for the repayment of the expenses incurred by the county for transport and uniforms, 'Request is made to us by the gentlemen of that country that the charges for coates and conduct money dysboursed by them for those Souldiers, amounting to the somme of eyght poundes two shillinges and eyght pence, maie be repayd by Her Majestie to the country'. Buckhurst is to issue an order for the money to be paid to Walter Rumsey, bearer of the warrant. The signatories include John Whitgift (as Archbishop of Canterbury, 'Jo: Cantuar'), Sir Thomas Egerton (Lord High Chancellor), Thomas Buckhurst (Thomas Sackville, 1st Earl of Dorset), Sir Robert Cecil, Sir John Fortescue, Sir John Popham and Sir John Herbert Buckhurst's annotation instructs, 'Mr Skinner make an order'.
