Engraved title, 55 plates (one plate mounted, small neat tear to title, repairs to four plates, some spotting). Modern old-style red stained calf, gilt floral border, spine gilt, gilt turn-ins. FIRST EDITION. This work was traditionally attributed to Charles Middleton but is now known to be by a Thomas Elison whose name appears on an apparent reprint, published in Leipzig in the early 19th-century. It has been variously dated between 1800 and 1805. Archer 68.1; RIBA 970.
