Egypt and Sudan Medals 1882-1891 from the Collection of Jack Webb Three: Conductor George Hyatt, Commissariat and Transport Staff Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, 2 clasps, The Nile 1884-85, Abu Klea (C. of Sups. C. Hyatt, C & T. Staff) note incorrect initial; Meritorious Service Medal, G.V.R., 2nd issue with fixed suspension (Condr. G. Hyatt, R.A.S.C.) official corrections to naming; Khedive’s Star 1884-86, nearly extremely fine (3) £500-600 Footnote Approximately 50 Commissariat and Transport Staff and Corps were present at Abu Klea, including 5 officers and 7 conductors of supplies. Conductor Hyatt served with No. 9 Company, C. & T.C., at Abu Klea, comprising of 2 conductors and 23 other ranks. George Hyatt was born on the island of Malta and enlisted for the 1/1st Regiment at Westminster on 17 December 1866, aged 14. Having risen to be a Colour-Sergeant in his regiment, he transferred to the Gymnastic Staff as an Instructor of Gymnastics in June 1877. He again transferred, in March 1881, as a Conductor of Supplies to the Commissariat and Transport Staff, and later the Army Service Corps, where he served until discharged with mania on 19 April 1892. His Meritorious Service Medal was announced in Army Order 127 of 1932. Sold with copy discharge papers which confirm campaign medals and clasps.
