Condition: Surface grime. N.B. [Jean] Adolphe Braun (1811-1877) was a well known photographer from Paris who founded a stereopticon company in the mid-19th century. In 1866 he began recording works of art in major collections in Europe. After Braun died suddenly in 1877, his family continued the business. Images by Braun et Cie. were widely used for study in the United States. The original painting by Fragonard is in the collection of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
