Echézeaux--Vintage 1999 (12) In two, six-bottle original wooden cases, banded "Explosive fruit of blackberries, vanilla and oriental spice with extremely ripe, relatively supple black fruit, round, sexy flavors underpinned by good structure, ripe tannins and fine acid/fruit balance. This is still very tight but there is good vigor, indeed even force behind this wine. One of the better DRC Echézeaux in a long time, in fact as good as the terrific '88 though stylistically different." BH Jan 30, 2003 Grands Echézeaux--Vintage 1999 (12) "The step up in quality is immediately evident with penetrating red and blackberry fruits, vanilla and oriental spice aromas and beautifully detailed, quite robust flavors that still offer excellent precision. But it is the richness, superb length and greater refinement that really distinguish this from the Echizeaux. This is very classy juice." BH Jan 1, 2002 La Tâche--Vintage 1999 (12) Six-bottles in original wooden case "The medium to dark ruby-colored 1999 La Tache has sweet, tangy raspberry, black currant, candied cherry, leather, and spice aromas. This medium to full-bodied wine is harmonious, refined, and powerful. It is expansive, magnificently delineated, and feminine, particularly for La Tache. Its flavor profile is crammed with an assortment of super-ripe red and black fruit laced with vanilla beans. It has loads of sweet tannin that can be detected in its admirable finish." Pierre Rovani, Wine Advocate #136 (Aug 2001) Richebourg--Vintage 1999 (12) Six-bottles in original wooden case "Practically black with a supersaturated multidimensional nose of black cherries, spice and trace of new oak. Bigger and larger scaled than the St.-Vivant, it is the richest, most robust wine in this lineup with decidedly muscular tannins. The recent racking has hardened this some but I have every confidence this will develop into a real showstopper." BH, Jan 1, 2001 Romanée St Vivant--Vintage 1999 (12) Six-bottles in original wooden case "More expressive still with remarkably dense aromas of classic Vosne spice and crushed blackberries, full-bodied, very sappy flavors with a terrific inner core of complexity and still more spice. The purity of extract displayed here is mind bending. Unquestionably the finest DRC Romanée St.-Vivant in many a vintage and this vintage would appear to support the Domaine's contention that all the vineyard work they've done is paying off. This is a great vintage for this wine." BH, Jan 1, 2002 Romanée Conti--Vintage 1999 (6) In two six-bottle original wooden cases, banded "The medium to dark ruby-colored 1999 Romanee-Conti is mind-boggling. It has a hugely expressive nose of super-ripe black cherries, candied plums, and violets. Full-bodied and possessing a magnificent breadth of sweet, penetrating fruits, this is an unbelievably complex wine. It coats the palate with its velvety sweet cherries, jammy blackberries, and fruit-soaked tannin. Perfectly balanced and seamless, this gem has a remarkably long finish. This is a wine of exemplary precision, delineation, and power with undescribable class and refinement. Projected maturity: 2006-2020." Pierre Rovani, Wine Advocate #136 (Aug 2001) Vosne Romanée, Cuvée Duvault Blochet--Vintage 1999 (12) In two six-bottle original wooden cases, banded "A veritable spice cupboard of aromas greets the nose followed by ripe, effusive, supple, sappy, super saturated flavors and outstanding length. This is long, reasonably dense and finishes with a trace of chocolate. I very much like the intensity of the finish." BH, Dec 19, 2002 All above Domaine de la Romanée-Conti
