FIRST EDITION OF THIS RARE EARLY ENGLISH NEWSPAPER reporting the capture of the islands of Lantore (Great Banda) and Polaroone (Pulo Run) in the Banda Islands from the British by the Dutch East India Company. These islands had been first discovered and annexed for Portugal by D'Abreu in 1512, but early in the 17th century the Dutch expelled the Portuguese. The British subsequently gained control from the Dutch who, in spite of their treaties, attacked and expelled the British in 1620, as detailed in this report. Bell IV, 34; Lowndes, p. 1670; STC 7457. POSSIBLY THE EARLIEST SURVIVING ENGLISH NEWSPAPER CONCERNING EVENTS IN THE FAR EAST.
