Woodcut half-title, Prince Bonbennin, 9 woodcut engraved plates after Alexander Anderson (from the same blocks used by Farnsworth in the 1799 Newport edition). Contemporary wrappers, chipped, some edges shaved, not affecting text or illustrations. Provenance: Maranda Ballou of Smithfield, 1918 (ink inscription to verso of half-title). A RARE EARLY AMERICAN JUVENILE IMPRINT, the First Providence edition, from the same blocks as the Farnsworth edition printed in Newport in 1799, as well as the 1810 edition. The wear to the blocks puts this closer to Farnsworth, and certainly before 1810, according to Welch. Evans 49598. Welch 1179.b.3. See Pomeroy 59.
