DRC Assortment--Vintage 1993
12 12 bottles per lot
DRC Assortment--Vintage 1993 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Lots 134-137 in banded original wooden cases, lot 138 band removed for inspection Parcel: lots 134-138 Romanée-Conti (1) "I first tasted the full range of DRC '93s when the wines were shown to an always rather small - but I don't know how select - group of merchants and wine wirters by Aubert de Villaine at Corney & Barrow, March 1996. I try not to miss the opportunity of tasting them at this stage, though I don not always find it easy to appraise them. A second look, smell and sip is always helpful to put the wine and vintage in perspective. The Romanée-Conti had a very flowery and suprisingly soft nose; on the plate, full, packed, good length. Totally unready of course. March 1996 (****)" MB, Vintage Wine La Tâche (3) "fairly deep; an immediately forthcoming nose, very rich, fragrant Pinot, sweet, vaniliin, then a touch of caramel, still rich after four hours and even after six hours in the glass, a strawberry-like fruitiness. On the palate, sweet and softer than the '94 and more amenable that the '92. I liked it. Last noted at Wagner's vertical, April 1998 ***(*) Evolving well, good mid-term. " MB, Vintage Wine Richebourg (2) "Very forthcoming, open, fragrant, flowery nose; a substantial wine with a long, dry finish and good aftertaste. March 1996. Then *(***) Doubtless evolving very well now. " MB, Vintage Wine Romanée-Saint-Vivant (3) "Classic and explosive RSV nose with superbly elegant black fruit nose framed by a subtle touch of wood that just exudes Asian spice followed by tight, pure, concentrated and intense flavors of outstanding complexity and length. This is dense and still quite young. A dramatic, extremely impressive wine that has it all and I would suggest giving this at least another 5 years of cellar time and drink over the next 15." BH Grands-Echézeaux (1) "Much like the '93 La Tâche, I confess to having mixed experiences with the '93 GE, with some bottles showing brilliantly and others, like the one in this particular tasting, being tight to the point of an almost surly austerity and revealing next to nothing. By contrast, the best bottles in my experience display really lovely aromatics of entirely primary fruit aromas and spice notes that combine with powerful and concentrated flavors though the acidity has never seemed as well integrated as one might consider ideal. What is clear though in both cases is that this is a wine in need of lots of time and it wouldn't surprise me if my projected initial drinking window proved to be too soon." BH Echézeaux (2) "An explosive black fruit nose of obvious breed and classic leads to very firm, densely concentrated, massively structured flavors of superb depth and extract and a somewhat short finish. This has all the material it needs for a very long life and it should go for 30 years with no difficulty at all if properly stored. At present, it's still sorting itself out but it should be worth the wait." BH 12 12 bottles per lot
