Dom Pérignon, Rosé--Vintage 1990
6 magnums per lot
1990 DOM PERIGNON "Superbly euphoric nose, as languorous and silky as a guitar solo by Carlos Santana. As usual, Richard Geoffroy - like his predecessor - has succeeded in creating a wine that has seductive suppleness, complexity, and concentration in one and the same wine. In that sense, Dom Pèrignon has a greatness that no other wines can really match, excepting the La Tâche in Burgundy. Besides wonderful structure there are layers of red and exotic fruit, with blood orange as the guiding star. All these fruits are sensitively braided together with all the classically toasted fireworks. I noticed with interest - when this wine was served blind - that it wasn't at all popular with the novices: they couldn't see past the stables and outhouse in the nose. How differently people can perceive things!" Richard Juhlin, May 2003, 4000 Champagnes "This wine shows ripe, toasty blackberry fruit with a hint of caramel on the nose. On the palate, it is ripe and soft with great richness and length. Powerful, but approachable." CC, October 2006 "Savory, smoky fruit character, with a very persistent ripe red fruit note that has taken on a spicy, toasty complexity with time and is beginning to show its true savory nature. On the palate the wine lingers with a great, silken finish that seems to last forever." CC, February 2009 The above three tasting notes show the evolution of a powerful Champagne from a vintage that garners five stars from Michael Broadbent. The complexity and nuance promise further development, especially in magnum format as offered here. Dom Pérignon, Rosé--Vintage 1990 Epernay Lots 377-386 in two three-magnum original cartons All bottles in individual original coffrets Parcel: Lots 377-386 "Savory, smoky fruit character, with a very persistent ripe red fruit note that has taken on a spicy, toasty complexity with time and is beginning to show its true savory nature.
