Oliver Twist , London: Richard Bentley 1838. 3 volumes, 12°, half titles in volumes I and II, etched frontispieces in each volume and 21 plates by George Cruikshank with "Rose Maylie & Oliver" plate and "pilaster" on page 164 in volume III, advertisments in volumes I and III, yellow endpapers (large paper repair to upper margin of half title and F 7 - 8 and in vol. I, affecting one work of F8, gathering H in vol. II detached, gathering K in vol. II almost detached, one plate in vol. II with marginal paper repair, plates heavily spotted and soiled, some light spotting and soiling), original brown horizontally-ribbed cloth with arabesque design stamped in blind on covers, spines with imprint (spines sunfaded, head and tail of spines chipped, tear to lower compartment of vol. III, extremities somewhat rubbed), uncut. Provenance : Mrs Haworth, old ownership inscription on titles. FIRST EDITION, third issue with the shortened title.
