DIRECT FROM DICKENS'S HOME AT GAD'S HILL. Having been acquired at the 1870 auction by Mr. Morris acting in concert with a forebearer of the present owner, the table has never changed hands since its ownership by Dickens. It stood on the ground floor of the Chalet, a real Swiss Chalet erected in the garden in 1865 and the retreat for writing preferred by Dickens. The table is one of a pair; its twin was Dickens's writing desk upstairs.
