One page, 8vo; with postmarked envelope addressed in Dickens's hand. "... Fechter reigns here now... For this coming season, he is engaged with Webster at the Adelphi. But he begs me to let you know that he will be quite willing to engage with you for a hundred nights afterwards..." Charles Albert Fechter was an actor first seen by Dickens in London when he was playing in Hamlet. Dickens was immensely impressed by the actor's performances. Fechter became lessee of the Lyceum Theatre in London in 1863 with Dickens, by now his personal friend, as financial backer. In 1868 he played the leading role in Wilkie Collins's and Dickens's drama No Thoroughfare, adapted from the Christmas story written jointly by them.
