DICKENS, Charles (1812-70) – A COMPLETE SET OF MAJOR AND AN ALMOST COMPLETE SET OF MINOR WORKS, MOST IN FIRST EDITION, THE 49 VOLUMES UNIFORMLY BOUND IN GILT-TOOLED RED MOROCCO BY WALLIS. Major works: 1. Sketches by Boz (1839), first collected edition. (Lacks half-title); 2. The Posthumous Papers of the Pickwick Club (1837). 8°. 20 extra plates by William Heath front wrapper to Heath’s “Twenty Plates” bound in at end. No Buss plates. An autograph letter signed from Dickens to G. Zavan, 1 Devonshire Terrace, 9 February 1849, 2 pages, 8vo ., thanking him for a poem, tipped in at front; 3. Oliver Twist (1838, 3 vols). Second issue with ‘Rose Maylie and Oliver’ plate and leaf with list of illustrations; 4. Nicholas Nickleby (1839). FIRST ISSUE, with ‘visiter’ on p.123 and ‘latter’ on p.160; 5. Master Humphrey’s Clock (1840-1841, 3 vols). Extra-illustrated with 8 plates by H.K. Browne; 6. Martin Chuzzlewit (1844). Reward notice on the sign-post not transposed. (Lacks errata leaf); 7. Dombey and Son (1848). Extra-illustrated with 12 portrait plates by H.K. Browne, the two front wrappers to the extra plates bound in. 2-line errata slip; 8. David Copperfield (1850); 9. The Story of Little Dombey (1858); 24. The Poor Traveller (1858); 25. A Curious Dance round a Curious Tree (1860). Second issue “pink” wrappers preserved; 26. A SUMPTUOUSLY BOUND-SET OF DICKENS’S WORKS IN REMARKABLE CONDITION, ONLY ONE VOLUME NOT UNIFORM, ALMOST ALL IN FIRST EDITION . The only part of the canon not included are Sketches of Young Gentlemen, Pictures from Italy, The Battle of Life , and A Child's History of England .
