Interesting collection of 35 photographs of Dickens, each mounted to a large card.
Various places, images from 1850s-70s [but assembled in the early 20th century]. Sizes vary from cartes-de-visite to cabinet card and slighly larger. Each image mounted to card measuring 12x10 inches and ruled in ink. Housed in a plan cloth portfolio case. Condition : Silvering to many of the images; the portfolio case worn. The images are generally early 20th century silver prints of earlier photographs, but include a few originals as well. Many of the cards have pencil inscriptions identifying the original photographers, including Charles and John Watkins Herbert Watkins Mason and Co, J. Gurney and Son, as well as two images after daguerreotypes by John Mayall. The collection includes a few images after paintings or drawings. An interesting assemblage of Dickensian portraiture.
