IN BOND ONLY SECTION A COMPLETE CASK OF DELAMAIN 1980 Lying in Bristol Offered in Bond Only Delamain Grande Champagne Cognac--Vintage 1980 Landed 1983. Strength at 4/3/99: 46.3i The history of Early Landed Cognac goes back to the late 17th Century when Cognac was always shipped in oak casks. Whilst most was drunk young, a small proportion was left to mature in damp English cellars, where its quality was enhanced by slow maturation under these conditions. Now, "early landed Cognac" must arrive in Britain within three years of vintage in order to obtain its "Acquit Jaune d'Or" or guarantee of authenticity, vintage and origin. This cask from Delamain has been shipped in seasoned limousin and stored at Howell's excellent bonded cellars near Bristol. The casks are inspected annually by Delamain representatives who monitor progress towards eventual bottling. The barrels also lie under the control of HM Customs and Excise and in the care of the bond's expert staff. Each cask will yield approximately 27-28 dozen (70cl) bottles. By selling a part of the Cognac at the time of bottling, the costs of storage, bottling, duty and VAT can be recovered leaving the owner with ample stock to enjoy over the years to come. This cask has the rotation number 95/070 and has a predicted bottling date of 2003/04. Storage costs are currently 5.00 per month and insurance is 38.00 per cask per year. Bottling costs are currently 27.50 plus VAT per dozen. Transport, delivery and insurance are approximately 2.50 per dozen. Duty is currently 65.72 per 12 x 70cl bottles plus VAT and there is also VAT on the hammer price of the cask. Tasting note from Delamain's cellar-master Alain Braastad: An old Grande Champagne matured for 12 years in London and latterly in the old humid cellars of Wickwar near Bristol. Well balanced, vanilla with mushroom hints. The ideal companion to a cigar. Could be bottled shortly but can wait for a year or so until it reaches 40 naturally. 1 cask per lot
