Taylor 3 vols., 8vo, 192 x 123 mm. (7 9/16 x 4 13/16 in.) and a trifle smaller; disparate bindings: first volume in late nineteenth-century calf gilt, g.e., spine and corners worn; second and third volumes uniform in nineteenth-century tree calf gilt, g.e., by J. Clarke rebacked, board edges and corners worn; first volume with erasure on title, leaves B1, G1, G2, most of signature H and Z1 and Z2 stained, blank portion lost from C4; second volume lacks last two leaves of advertisements B7 and 8; third volume with folding plate torn and repaired in two places and cropped, lacks leaf S8 before p. 270 dividing the parts, and two leaves of advertisements at end, a few blank corners restored. FIRST EDITIONS with the following points: vol. I: colon after "London" in imprint; A2 with catchword "apply" on recto correctly repeated on verso; Z4r with correct spellings of "Pilot" and "Portuguese" in lines 2 and 21 respectively and of the line-endings in lines 9-12; vol. II: verso of A4 blank; "Farthfr" on B1; p. 295 correctly numbered; uniform page numbers; vol. III: "w" in "know" on p. 73, line 13 slightly above the line; I2 cancelled; "way with a" on p. 170, line 1; asterisk under "out" at foot of p. 194; no catchword on p. 253.
