Beschreibung:

Title: "Decoration Day" - photographic copy of the original score Author: Ives, Charles Edward Place: No place Publisher: Date: c.1931 Description: 29 pp. Photographic copy of the manuscript. 35x27 cm. (13¾x10¾"), brown boards with handwritten cover title, cloth spine. Score of Decoration Day, the second movement of Charles Ives' Holiday Symphony, with his corrections and notes, all on photographic paper. Charles Ives (1874-1954), widely regarded as one of the first American composers of international renown, was largely ignored during his life, and many of his works went unperformed for many years. This photographic copy of the score, originally written in 1912, seems likely to have been made for the performances of the first three movements of Holiday Symphony in the United States and Europe in 1931 and 1932 under the direction of Nicolas Slonimsky. The manuscript cover title reads "Charles E. Ives, Holidays in a Conneticut [sic] Country Town, 4 pieces for Orchestra, Decoration Day, 2nd Movement." The piece seems not to have been published until 1989. Lot Amendments Condition: Wear to boards, top corner missing, overall very good. Item number: 213730
