First Edition. Perhaps most noteworthy for the beautiful tinted lithographs from paintings by David Wilkie Edwin Landseer Charles Landseer William Simson and Edward Cooke; these were withdrawn from the second edition of 1854, although the two hand-colored lithos of salmon were retained. Westwood & Satchell notes that "copies of the first edition are scarce and sell for about €6," not a small sum in 1881. Quite uncommon in the original cloth. Westwood & Satchell p.191.
