(9¾x6"), later three-quarter morocco and marbled boards, spine ruled and lettered in gilt, top edge gilt. First Edition. Perhaps most noteworthy for the beautiful tinted lithographs from paintings by David Wilkie Edwin Landseer Charles Landseer William Simson and Edward Cooke; these were withdrawn from the second edition of 1854, although the two hand-colored lithographs of salmon were retained. Westwood & Satchell notes that "copies of the first edition are scarce and sell for about 6 pounds," not a small sum in 1881. Westwood & Satchell p.191.
