Title: Days and Nights of Salmon Fishing in the Tweed... Author: Scrope, William Place: London Publisher: John Murray Date: 1843 Description: xvii, [3], 298, + [2] ad pp. Half-title. With additional duotone lithographed pictorial title; 9 tinted lithographed plates; 3 hand-colored lithographed plates; 9 wood engravings in the text. (8vo) 25x15.3 cm. (9¾x6"), later three-quarter morocco and marbled boards, spine ruled and lettered in gilt, top edge gilt. First Edition. Perhaps most noteworthy for the beautiful tinted lithographs from paintings by David Wilkie Edwin Landseer Charles Landseer William Simson and Edward Cooke; these were withdrawn from the second edition of 1854, although the two hand-colored lithographs of salmon were retained. Westwood & Satchell notes that "copies of the first edition are scarce and sell for about 6 pounds," not a small sum in 1881. Westwood & Satchell p.191. Lot Amendments Condition: Spine sunned, a bit of light wear to extremities; bookplate and ownership signature of J. Griffith Dearden; light foxing to plates; very good. Item number: 216455
