DAVID PLAYING THE HARP, LOOKING UP TO GOD, historiated initial 'B' on a leaf from an ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT CHOIR BREVIARY ON VELLUM [Bologna, beginning of the 15th century] Leaf 365 x 260mm, initial pink on burnished gold ground (57x55mm), a bearded David playing the lute in lower half of the letter, God in Majesty above on blue ground, with coloured floral and foliate extension. (Initial somewhat rubbed). Text double column, 20 lines in a gothic rotunda, with 7 lines of music on 4-line red staves. The leaf is foliated iiii. The miniature illustrates the first Psalm 'Beatus Vir' Together with another leaf from the same manuscript, containing the initial 'D' pink on burnished gold ground (52x50mm), decorated with green, red and yellow scrolling plants, and floral extensions. This leaf is foliated cxx. The initial introduces Psalm 21 'Deus meus respice' . Both leaves belong to the same manuscript, as the two lots above (2)
