DAVID, Elizabeth (1913-1992). A collection of correspondence, manuscripts and inscribed books, comprising: MANUSCRIPTS AND TYPESCRIPTS, including autograph notes for recipes for chocolate cream ice, barszcz, recipes involving wild parsnips, aubergines and salted sturgeon (3 recipes on one page), a salad of hop shoots, tomato and lemon chutney and vin d'orange; and 37 further recipes or articles on kitchen matters in typescript or carbon copy, a few with minor manuscript emendations; with a substantial collection of recipes or related articles in photocopies or press cuttings; and a few manuscripts of a biographical or personal nature, including an autograph manuscript biographical note, a photocopied typescript relating to the disposition of her personal effects and a portrait photograph signed (dated, retrospectively, 'Cairo 1944'); CORRESPONDENCE, approximately 80 retained copies of letters to fellow cookery writers, newspaper editors, publishers and others, 1986-1992, the letters mostly typed, a few photocopied, four with autograph drafts, a small number of secretarial letters in her name, many stapled with related correspondence and papers, with a small group of papers relating to obituaries and arrangements after her death; with a collection of 7 books by Elizabeth David, signed or inscribed to Elizabeth Savage, and related printed brochures and ephemera. Provenance : Elizabeth Savage (personal assistant to ED; inscriptions 'for ES', 'ES's copy') -- by descent to the present owner.
