NOTE: The present work was painted during de Coninck's time in Rome, circa 1671-1694, probably in the 1680s. De Coninck very rarely signed his works, which is why many of his paintings have been wrongly attributed to other artists, such as Joannes Fijt, Frans Snijders, Abraham Brueghel and his teacher, Peeter Boel. We wish to thank Dr. Fred Meijer of the Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistorische Documentatie, also known as the R.K.D., for confirming the authenticity of the present lot and for his kind assistance in cataloguing it.
