Darwin, Charles (1809-1882) The Power of Movement in Plants. London: John Murray 1880. First edition, octavo, ex libris London physician Dr. Francis Warner (1847-1926) with his signature dated 1880 on half-title, book ticket from Foyles, Charing Cross, London; with thirty-two pages of publisher's ads dated May 1878 after the text; bound in publisher's full green textured cloth, stamped in blind on boards, in gilt on the spine, somewhat bumped, cloth a bit torn, light brown coated endleaves; with marginal notations and one inserted sheet with notes, 7 1/2 x 5 in. Freeman 1325. Warner worked at the London Hospital after he graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Physicians, lecturing in botany from 1877-1879. He subsequently practiced at the East London Hospital for Children and served as professor of Comparative Anatomy and Physiology at the Royal College of Surgeons. He drew on Darwin's work on facial expressions, and wrote on the nervous systems and education of children.
