D'APRÈS HUGHSON HAWLEY (1850-1936) PENNSYLVANIA STATION, NEW YORK CITY. 1910. 30 1/2x52 1/4 inches, 77 1/2x132 3/4 cm. Ketterlinus, Philadelphia. Condition B: extensive waterstaining in right side of bottom margin and text; creases, rippling and staining in margins and image. Paper. Framed. Hughson Hawley a prominent architectural illustrator, designed this bird's eye view of the Garment District between 6th and 9th Avenues, from 35th-41st Streets, before high rises became the norm in that neighborhood. The development of Pennsylvania Station and the U.S. Post office is featured prominently. Hawley "finished a prodigious 11,000 drawings over the course of his 50 year career" (www.nyc-architecture.com).
