Type: 5:90G. Spaces for illustrations. 3- to 8-line initials in red and blue, full-page illuminated white-vine border and unidentified coat-of-arms on á2r, supplied in the early 20th century. (Lightly washed, a few residual waterstains, first few leaves a little soiled at lower margin, other leaves including á5, g4, h3, and h7 with repaired marginal tears, outer margin of K10 with slight blue stain, wormhole affecting two letters on PP11r.) Early 20th-century vellum, spine titled and dated in gilt. Seventh edition, the first to include Boccaccio's life of the poet. Following the death of his brother, Johannes, Vindelinus de Spira produced as many as fifty or sixty books in a period of less than three years between 1470 and 1472. However, he then appears to have become one of the victims of over production, his material passing into the hands of two compatriots, Johannes de Colonia and Johannes Manthen. At the very end of 1476, he set up a second press, from which this critical edition of Dante was one of the few productions, the press lasting only a few months before Vindelinus again disappears from view. The narrow length of the columns in the Dante led him to make free use of the hyphen throughout his book. In the text, the commentary is erroneously credited to Benvenuto d'Imola.
