FIRST EDITION of the earliest book on the Château of Fontainbleau. It is particularly useful as a contemporary description of the building as it was before the massive 18th- and 19th-century alterations, but after the alterations started by François I in 1528. Eight of the illustrations are of the fountains designed by Tommaso Francini the ninth is a bird's-eye-view of the building and gardens.
