FIRST EDITION IN ENGLISH of Leonardo da Vinci's Trattato della pittura, compiled from manuscripts written during his lifetime, but first published in Italian in 1651. Da Vinci exposits his theories regarding anatomical drawing, perpective, and other elements of composition for artists, a text that was very influential in its attempt to define and understand the laws of painting in a scientific framework.
