CURTIS, William (1746-1799). Flora Londiniensis; or, Plates and Descriptions of such Plants as grow wild in the Environs of London. London: printed for and sold by the Author and B.White & Son, [1775]-1777-1798. 2 volumes, 2° (469 x 260mm). Engraved oval vignette on title of vol.I, 435 (on 432) hand-coloured engraved plates after Sydenham Edwards, James Sowerby and William Kilburn (Some light spotting, browning or offsetting to about 72 plates, ownership inscriptions excised from upper blank margins of titles, one index leaf with short tear into text from lower margin, small holes in two text leaves.) Old half calf (worn, vol.I re-backed with original spine laid-down). FIRST EDITION. Second issue title to volume I. The Flora Londiniensis is the first english flora illustrated with coloured plates to be at all comprehensive. This copy has one dedication leaf (in vol.II); individual fasicle indices to parts 1-6 and general indices to fascicles 4-6. It is without the two subscribers' lists; the catalogue of plants around Settle; observations on grasses and one dedication leaf. All of these are sometimes, but not always, present.
