CRUIKSHANK, Robert (1790-1856). A collection of 8 original pen, pencil and watercolour drawings for Egan's Life in London and Westmacott's The English Spy (1825), five signed by the artist (139 x 208mm. or similar), tipped onto window-mounts and preserved in brown buckram box, green and brown morocco title labels (spine label chipped ). Provenance : Cumberland Collection (Egan drawings) -- Sir B.W. Richardson (Westmacott drawings) -- purchased at the Woodin sale, 15 March 1942. A SPIRITED COLLECTION OF ORIGINAL DESIGNS BY ROBERT CRUIKSHANK for two closely related books. Life in London : The Hounds at Standstill p. 105; The Death of Corinthian Tom p.365, both signed. The English Spy : The Etonians at the Christopher I, p. 57, related ink drawing on the back (one corner affected by repaired tear); The Opera Green Room I, p. 225, signed and annotated (slight damage to lower margin); Tom Echo laid Up I, p. 365, signed, pencil version on the back; The Daffy Club I, p. 381; Family Men at Fault I, p. 389, signed, related pen drawing on the back. A final signed trial drawing of William Tell was unused.
