The Navigator: Containing Directions for Navigating the Monongahela, Allegheny, Ohio, and Mississippi Rivers ... with Accurate Maps of the Ohio and Mississippi... to which is added an Appendix, containing and Account of Louisiana, and of the Missouri and Columbia Rivers, as Discovered by the Voyage under Captains Lewis and Clark. Pittsburgh: Cramer, Spear and Eichbaum, 1808.

Pittsburgh: Cramer, Spear and Eichbaum, 1808. 8 o (181 x 107 mm). 28 woodcut maps of rivers and creeks. (Some light browning and staining, a few marginal chips or tears, mostly mended.) Contemporary half sheep and boards (some wear to edges); quarter morocco folding case. Provenance : John Bradford and Manuel Alcock Turner (ownership inscription dated "1832"); Otto Orren Fisher (bookplate). EARLY ACCOUNT OF THE DISCOVERIES OF LEWIS AND CLARK "Sixth edition, improved and enlarged" but actually the fourth edition after those of 1802, 1804, 1806 and THE FIRST TO INCLUDE THE REFERENCE TO THE DISCOVERIES OF LEWIS AND CLARK. It is the first navigational guide to the Ohio and Mississippi rivers which were impotant commercial routes. The appendix includes a summery of the discoveries of Lewis and Clark from a letter written by William Clark to one of his brothers in Louisville and from Patrick Grass's Journal .
