cover A.S. MURRAY CORRESPONDENCE, 1848: Entires (one with part letter) and envelopes, mostly from Captain Arthur S. Murray (Rifle Brigade) at King Williams Town and addressed to his father, Lt. Gen. Henry Murray, Commanding Western District at Devonport: showing the Undated Letter Stamp (ULS.1 or 2), one with Ship Letter handstamp SL.1, and other markings including Ship Letter types of Portsmouth and London. Capt. Murray was killed in action at Boomplatz on 30 August 1848. Also related envelopes (2), and an 1851 entire letter from Capt. Murray's batman, asking for money for his passage home to England. Relevant typed transcriptions are included, together with a photograph of a memorial. (8 postal items)
