cover 1857, 5c on 13c Dark Red Manuscript Provisional Surcharge (7), five singles, four are type II numerals with short flags, the fifth is a type III numeral with a loop, all have large margins all around except the top stamp is barely into the bottom frameline, used in combination with United States 12c Black (17) and 10c Green types II, III (14, 15), a horizontal pair and single of type II and a single of type III, clear to large margins except the pair is slightly in at right, the Hawaiian stamps are uncancelled (as quite often) and pay a quintuple Hawaiian 5c rate, the U.S. stamps are all tied by "San Francisco, CAL. 20 Feb" c.d.s. cancels on a fresh neat large buff cover (205x98mm) from Hawaii to New Bedford, Mass., faint red partial "HONOLULU* U.S. Postage Paid *?" c.d.s. of origin, this style postmark confirms payment of U.S. postage when it was mailed from Honolulu, ms. "52" rate mark conforms to the 52c in U.S. stamps present on the cover paying the quintuple U.S. transcontinental 10c rate plus a 2c ship fee, light negligible cover edge stains along the top edge, cover also slightly reduced at right partly through the Honolulu c.d.s., A TRUE WORLD-CLASS RARITY, CERTAINLY THE RAREST FIVE-CENTS ON THIRTEEN-CENTS MANUSCRIPT PROVISIONAL SURCHARGE COVER, BY FAR THE RAREST HAWAIIAN KAMEHAMEHA ISSUE-UNITED STATES COMBINATION FRANKING COVER AND ONE OF THE ABSOLUTE "GEMS" OF HAWAIIAN PHILATELY photo
