Mauritius who will kindly forward it to England and charge to my no. 1 account" , addressed to Canonbury Square, Islington or to Fitzroy Square, London and endorsed "p. Jupiter" (deleted) and "H.M.S. Isis" ; backstamped oval "MAURITIUS/POST OFFICE", boxed "DOVER/INDIA LETTER" and "London/SP 14/1833" , the front shows manuscript "T P 1/-" and handstamped "G.P." (General Post) in red covering Two penny Post delivery in the area of Camden Town, Islington, Stoke Newington etc.; the letter is from the Rev. Morton to his parents and commences with "Since my arrival at this remote and unknown corner, I have written to you so seldom, you may perhaps have thought me negligent - I have not been so - since I last wrote in December (having arrived only 1st. day of Nov.) no opportunity whatever has occurred - the prevalence of hurricanes of most terrible and destructive power in the area around Mauritius preclude all communication from Dec. till April between that and these, its remote dependencies. The letter continues on four sides to discuss chance whalers as a means of communication, the reduction in the number of baptisms, the effect of the licentious press in Mauritius, and slavery.
