Second edition of Cotton's anonymous little work on gaming which was frequently reprinted and augmented -- by the time of the fifth edition in 1734 it comprised another two parts. Apart from the games mentioned in the title there are twenty card games including a type of alcoholic pelmanism and cribbage (invented, according to Aubrey, about thirty years previously by Sir John Suckling), backgammon and tick-tack and other games using or not using a table. The author is, of course, better known for his friendship and collaboration with Izaak Walton, and also for the verses which were valued by Wordsworth, Coleridge and Lamb.
